The Investment Reporter, in its March 6, 2020, issue, refreshes its buy of Bird Construction, recently $6.68. The Reporter said buy once before on Oct. 4, 2019, at $5.87. Assuming a $1,000 investment for the Bird purchase, the position would now be worth $1,135. The company is a general contractor in Canada. Bird Construction is thought to have earned 21 cents a share in 2019. If that is the case, the company would have an excessive trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 31.8 times. The Reporter notes that the forward-looking stock market is expecting the company to earn a much improved 57 cents a share in 2020. That would give Bird's shares a forward P/E of 11.7 times, a much more attractive valuation. The company's projected 2020 earnings also exceed its 39-cent-a-share dividend, which has an attractive yield equal to 5.8 per cent. The Reporter says buy Bird Construction for further long-term share price gains and a high dividend, but only if you can stomach buying shares that the Reporter rates as "higher risk."
