The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that Tilray shares plunged Tuesday to a record low after the cannabis company missed fourth-quarter revenue estimates and recorded $181-million of writedowns and impairment charges (all figures U.S.). A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post says that several analysts cut their price targets on the stock, and some questioned whether the Nanaimo, B.C., company will be able to meet its goal of reaching positive EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) by the fourth quarter. One analyst cutting her price target on Tilray is Tamy Chen at BMO. She believes that positive EBITDA will not happen until 2022, in which case it will need to raise another $240-million of financing. "We believe it is currently unclear if the company's liquidity position and existing funding sources will be sufficient in supporting the business until it becomes profitable, which we forecast will be sometime in 2022," said Ms. Chen. She expects Tilray will require another $240-million through its at-the-market equity program to finance its operations over the next two years. Ms. Chen is maintaining a market perform rating, and has cut her price target to $15 from $27.
