Globe says analysts downgrade Aurora Cannabis

The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Feb. 8, edition that Aurora Cannabis ($2.26) was hit with several analyst downgrades on Friday after the company said it was letting 500 workers go and that Terry Booth, its chief executive officer, was retiring. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Aurora plans to take a $740-million to $775-million writedown on goodwill, and an impairment charge of between $190-million and $225-million. Desjardins Securities' John Chu moved his rating to "hold" from "buy," calling Aurora a "show-me story." He chopped his share target to $3.25 from $6.50. Canaccord Genuity analyst Matt Bottomley moved Aurora to "hold" from "speculative buy" with a $3 share target, falling from $6. Laurentian Bank Securities analyst Chris Blake cut Aurora to "hold" from "buy" with a target of $2.50, down from $4.75. Eight Capital's Graeme Kreindler cut his rating to "neutral" from "buy" with a $2 target, falling from $6. The Globe reported on Sept. 16, 2019, that Mr. Chu reiterated his "buy" on Aurora when it was worth $7.26. The Globe reported on Nov. 18, 2019, that Mr. Bottomley kept his "speculative buy" rating on Aurora. It could be then be had for $3.59.
