The National Post reports in its Thursday edition that President Donald Trump wants to wriggle his way out of the war he started in Iran. The Post's Kelly McParland writes that Mr. Trump has other things he'd rather be doing, mostly to do with the real estate world he appears to miss badly. The war Mr. Trump launched keeps getting in the way. He's retreated on nearly every aim he set when he started the war, yet the remnants of the regime he pledged to obliterate won't let him quit and go home to play with his bulldozers. The latest is that he's willing to end the war for some minor concessions. He wants Iran to allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without fees, as it used to be before the destruction he caused. Given the devastation of the war, it seems like a bare minimum request. This way, Mr. Trump could claim victory, wash his hands of the situation and focus on things he understands. But the regime won't co-operate. It's impossible to admire Iran's leadership, brutal murderers that they are, but it has to be admitted they've taken the measure of Mr. Trump and are employing that understanding with consummate skill. Iran's surviving powers want America to pay a price for the turmoil it set loose.
