The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Dec. 1, edition that Canopy Growth said it will be breaking out its Canadian cannabis operations into a stand-alone business unit and laying off 55 staff. A Canadian Press dispatch to the Post reports that Brenna Eller, the pot company's vice-president of communications, said the move is meant to help the company reach profitability. As part of the changes, Ms. Eller said Dave Paterson will now serve as its president of Canadian operations. Mr. Patterson is expected to drive greater accountability as the company tries to find sustainable growth. Mr. Patterson most recently served as chief commercial officer of cannabis producer Indiva.
