The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that the Ontario Chamber of Commerce says Ontario needs to end its monopoly on its legal cannabis market. The Post's Bryan Passifiume writes that on Monday, the chamber urged Queen's Park to release its stranglehold on licensed cannabis retailers through requiring them to exclusively purchase their stock via the Ontario Cannabis Store, the Crown corporation behind the legal monopoly over on-line sales and wholesale distribution for Ontario's recreational pot industry. Ontario Chamber of Commerce vice-president of policy and chairman of the Ontario Cannabis Policy Council Daniel Safayeni said: "From the start, we've suggested that we need to have retailers and producers to be able to have a direct relationship with one another. We see with the current delivery stoppage issue and the cyber hack vulnerability why it's important to not hedge the province's bets on one single government-run entity." On Aug. 5, a cyberattack on Domain Logistics brought the province's recreational weed industry to its knees. A mandatory two-year review mandated by the Cannabis Act was to have commenced last October, but as of this month there is no indication on when it would begin.
