The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Nov. 20, edition that Canopy Growth is replacing chief financial officer Mike Lee and long-serving chief product officer Rade Kovacevic. The Globe's Yanmala Subramainiam writes that the executive shakeup comes barely two weeks after Canopy posted disappointing earnings. The two executives are stepping down from their roles immediately, before formally departing the company on Dec. 31. Canopy has appointed Judy Hong as interim CFO. She is the current chief of staff to chief executive officer David Klein. Tara Rozalowsky, Canopy's current vice-president of beverage and edibles, will take on the role of interim CPO. Mr. Klein said in a statement, "These decisions reflect management and the board's vision for building a best-in-class organization that is well positioned to deliver long-term growth and shareholder value." The Globe reports that sales growth has been a struggle for Canopy lately, as it faces intense competition from a myriad of other cannabis producers in a recreational market that is flush with products and devoid of brand loyalty. Mr. Lee made $984,359 (U.S.) and Mr. Kovacevic made $971,258 (U.S.) in the fiscal year ended March 31.
