The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, April 9, edition that RBC analyst Sabahat Khan has assumed coverage of Waste Connections with an "outperform" ranking, calling it a "best-in-class" operator and emphasizing it has "established a track record of delivering peer-leading metrics across most KPIs and has been a prudent allocator of capital." The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Khan raised the firm's share target to $196 from $182 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $185.15. Mr. Khan says in a note: "Over its history, Waste Connections has operated with a unique philosophy and strategy predicated on market selection, strategic asset positioning, and local execution. Management has successfully executed against this strategy. ... Today the company outperforms its peer group on virtually all key metrics. ... Additionally, our channel checks have highlighted that Waste Connections' culture, philosophy and decentralized operations are selling points for employees. ... Given the importance of labour retention in the Waste industry (due to the safety/cost impacts), we view the company's culture/operating philosophy as tangible drivers of its results and premium valuation."
