The original consultation period was set to end this week. Consultations will now go until July 22, meaning the earliest the new legislation could be tabled would be in the fall parliamentary sitting. The last-minute decision to delay the legislation and instead take more time to gather feedback is a rare move from Prime Minister Mark Carney's government, which has prioritized speed in its first year in office. It has already repealed or overhauled many other climate-change and environment policies from the Justin Trudeau era, prompting pushback from within and outside the party.
