In contrast, India relies on imports for 90 per cent of its energy, with supply lines facing instability. India is expected to be the largest contributor to global oil demand growth through 2050, driven by a strong need for energy security as millions seek basic energy access, according to the International Energy Agency. India has built a complex refining infrastructure, exemplified by the Jamnagar complex, designed to process heavy, sour crude, like Canadian oil sands. This capability converts crude into valuable products needed for modern cities, highlighting that heavy oil remains crucial for India's industrial demand. Yet this natural partnership is being held hostage by a lack of export capacity. The instability of traditional energy routes highlights the need for a Canadian alternative. By creating a secure connection to India, we can alleviate global energy poverty and improve living conditions for millions.
