Post says TC Energy told Ksi Lisims LNG awaits decision

2025-05-28 09:25 ET - In the News

The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that the fate of Canada's next big liquefied natural gas terminal rests on a pivotal political decision about a B.C. pipeline. The Post's Meghan Potkins writes that momentum is building for the project, which already has a third of its LNG output under contract and more deals are pending. Proponents behind Ksi Lisims LNG say they are increasingly confident about the commercial viability of the 12-million-tonne-per-year (Mtpa) floating LNG terminal on Pearse Island, north of Prince Rupert, but have to wait for a decision by B.C. Environment Minister Tamara Davidson on the environmental certificate for the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline that would supply feed gas to the terminal. Earlier this month, France's Totalenergies announced an agreement to buy two Mtpa of LNG from Ksi Lisims, the second major offtake purchase announced for the project after Shell unveiled a similar deal in 2023. Former owners of the pipeline, TC Energy, technically received the environmental sign-off in 2014, when the pipeline was associated with the now-defunct Pacific Northwest LNG project. Ms. Davidson must decide if the entire regulatory clock will have to be reset for PRGT.
