A Postmedia dispatch to the Post reports that the announcement follows the capture of Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro by the United States government. "We remain committed to evidence-based planning and collaboration as we lead the way in advancing the northwest coast oil pipeline submission," said Energy and Minerals Minister Brian Jean. The web page outlines the project's timeline, including the province's plan to submit its application to the major projects office in July, 2026, the project's status, the benefits of a pipeline and indigenous consultation efforts. Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters in Paris on Tuesday that a functioning Venezuelan economy will produce more oil, benefiting its people and bringing more stability to the Western Hemisphere. He added that Canadian oil will be competitive because it is low-risk and low-cost. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said recent events in Venezuela emphasized the importance of expediting pipeline development to diversify Canada's oil export markets."
