The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that as Canadian trucking and diversified industrial companies head into the first quarter earnings season, RBC Dominion Securities analyst Walter Spracklin predicts a weak environment due to low volume indications from U.S. transports and Canadian railway data. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that while Mr. Spracklin reduced his quarterly expectations for TFI International he raised his share target to $173 from $155 (all figures U.S.). Mr. Spracklin continues to rate TFI "outperform." Analysts on average target the shares at $168.45. Mr. Spracklin says in a note: "In our view, TFI is uniquely positioned to outperform, reflecting its strong FCF generation and focus on margin improvement, on which it has been successfully executing. Our view is predicated on TFI's: 1) strong management team; 2) transcontinental network reach; and 3) significant scale. Furthermore, we are confident that management has the skills and expertise required to prudently acquire and integrate assets so as to increase market share. Moreover, we believe that efficiency initiatives should lead to margin enhancement that provides upside torque as volumes rise."
