The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Jan. 3, edition that Bank of Nova Scotia analyst Konark Gupta has reaffirmed his "sector perform" recommendation for TFI International. The Globe's Darcy Keith writes that Mr. Gupta raised his share target on TFI International to $180 from $170 after the transportation company announced the acquisition of Dasek Inc., nearly doubling the truckload business for the company. Analysts on average target the shares at $173.16. Management is now evaluating potential benefits of spinning off its TL segment in the wake of the acquisition, which is not expected to be accretive before 2025. Mr. Gupta says in a note: "We believe a potential separation would unlock value for shareholders based on our sum-of-the-parts analysis, which suggests a fair valuation of $190 based on current fundamentals and peer valuations. A split could also potentially coincide with an eventual CEO transition, in our view. ... However, we maintain our estimates at this time as we plan to revisit our model in the coming weeks, while it is becoming more likely that the prolonged weakness in organic fundamentals could partially offset Dasek accretion. We [see] relatively limited upside potential."
