The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, June 6, edition that Stifel analyst Ian Gillies is holding on to his "buy" recommendation for Stantec. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Gillies gave his share target a $7 boost to $93. Analysts on average target the shares at $89.60. Mr. Gillies says Stantec is "well positioned to provide strong investor return in future years." Mr. Gillies says in a note: "Over the past year, Stantec has outperformed the S&P 500 by 33 per cent and S&P/TSX Composite Index by 40 per cent. Over a five-year period, Stantec is up 148 per cent versus the S&P 500 at 57 per cent and S&P/TSX Composite at 25 per cent. The question that results from this is whether Stantec can continue to provide outperformance in future years. In our view, future returns should be healthy and the stock should continue to be a core holding, but matching share price performance similar to prior years will be a tall task. ... We expect the primary driver of share price performance in future years to be driven by earnings growth tied to M&A. ... The juice continues to be worth the squeeze and adding new positions at this price level is attractive."
