The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, March 1, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Jonathan Egilo has downgraded SSR Mining to "hold" from "buy." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Egilo trimmed his share target by a loonie to $6.75. Analysts on average target the shares at $9.64. Mr. Egilo thinks SSR Mining's share price has now removed all future value from its Copler mine in Turkey, which continues to be closed following a landslide earlier this month. However, he is now "cautious" about the risks surrounding its Hod Maden gold-copper deposit after the Vancouver-based company withdrew its annual guidance on Wednesday. Mr. Egilo says in a note: "[Wednesday] night's filings contained added risks and disclosures pertaining to the ongoing situation in Turkey, including commentary on the potential for the government to rescind or revoke permits associated with Hod Maden. Within [Wednesday] night's release, SSR also announced a suspension of spending at Hod Maden, although we believe that is likely part of the same strategy which drove the dividend cut, ie balance sheet protection through this period of Copler uncertainty."
