The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Feb. 15, edition that DA Davidson analyst Gil Luria has reaffirmed his "buy" recommendation for Shopify. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Luria hiked his share target ahead by $4 to $90 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $79.19. The Globe says Mr. Luria thinks the "strong" fourth quarter results from Shopify showcase its "ability to monetize its unified platform offering and drive efficient growth." He thinks it displayed positive momentum, including a top-line beat and improving profitability metrics, and sees the 12.5-per-cent drop in share price on Tuesday as a buy opportunity for investors. Mr. Luria says in a note: "Shopify posted 20-per-cent EBITDA margins in 4Q, up from 18.8 per cent in the year ago period and 17.6 per cent in the prior quarter. The company continues to benefit from disciplined cost controls, and we expect additional margin expansion to stem from a combination of automation and positive operating leverage." The Globe reported on Sept. 22 that Mr. Luria had reaffirmed his "buy" recommendation for Shopify when the shares were going for $53.08.
