The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that Shopify posted a $1.3-billion loss in its most recent quarter as the company laid off 20 per cent of staff and sold its logistics business (all figures U.S.).
A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe says that the Ottawa e-commerce company says the net loss in its second quarter compared with a net loss of $1.2-billion a year earlier.
The results for the company worked out to a net loss of $1.02 per share compared with a loss of 95 cents per share a year ago.
Analysts on average had expected a loss of 46 cents per share.
The company's revenue hit almost $1.7-billion in the quarter compared with roughly $1.3-billion in the same quarter a year ago.
The financial results encompass a period when Shopify was significantly reducing its head count to help the company refocus on its main e-commerce business and offloading its fulfilment business to supply chain management company Flexport.
