TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 14, 2011) -

Sherritt International Corporation (TSX:S) today announced the appointment of Sir Richard Lapthorne as Director, effective immediately.

Sir Richard has been Chairman of Cable and Wireless plc since January 2003, and, following the demerger of Cable & Wireless Worldwide Plc, he continues as Chairman of Cable & Wireless Communications Plc. He also serves as Chairman of the PwC Public Interest Body.

Sir Richard has served in various capacities, including in many cases as Chairman, on the Board of diverse, international organizations including New Look, the McLaren Group, Amersham International plc, Robert Fleming (the merchant bank), Oasis International Leasing in Abu Dhabi, Avecia (spun off from Astra Zeneca), TI Automotive (spun off from Smiths Group), Tunstall, Morse plc and Arlington Securities. In addition to his Board service, he has had a distinguished executive career at Unilever, Courtaulds plc and British Aerospace. Sir Richard was awarded a Knight Bachelor in the Queen's New Year Honours in December 2009.
