The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday edition that Royal Bank of Canada has signed a deal to become a sponsor and official banking partner of Wrexham AFC, an English football club that is majority co-owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac. The Post's Naimul Karim writes that other sports teams RBC has sponsored or partnered with include the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks, the NBA'S Minnesota Timberwolves and Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy. Wrexham currently plays in the Championship division, which is England's second-tier league. The club hopes to get promoted to the Premier League in the near future. Wrexham will play its opening match of the season against Cardiff City on Monday. Viewers will be able to see RBC's shield on the back of the players' shirts, above their name and number, on the club's men's and women's home, away and third kits. Wrexham was founded in 1864 and is the oldest professional football club in Wales and the third oldest in the world. Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Mac completed their takeover of the historic club in 2021. Back then, Wrexham played in the National League, the fifth tier of English football.
