The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Nov. 28, edition that National Bank Financial analyst Zachary Evershed has reaffirmed his "sector perform" ranking for Rogers Sugar. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Evershed gave his share target a 75-cent boost to a $7, matching the consensus. Mr. Evershed acknowledges that there is still uncertainty regarding the timing and pace of the $300-million modernization project at Rogers Sugar's aging Lantic refining factory in Montreal. He notes that this extension will delay the return on invested capital. However, his concerns are eased by the expectation of higher profitability in fiscal year 2026. Mr. Evershed says in a note: "The six-month LEAP start-up delay to June, 2027, was a trade-off against uninterrupted production at the site and total cost. Refurbishing the 140-year-old building and installing new equipment next to running lines has been more difficult than anticipated, but total downtime in the past two years has amounted to only nine hours. With additional labour and overtime, management believes they could have maintained the initial schedule, but opted instead to stick to the $280-million to $300-million project budget."
