ORIGINAL: QMC Quantum Minerals to Explore the Rocky Lake/Rocky-Namew VMS Properties

2013-03-20 15:05 ET - News Release

(via Thenewswire.ca)

Vancouver, B.C., March 20, 2013 - Quantum Minerals Corp. (TSX-V: QMC)(OTC: QMCQF)(FSC: 3LQ) ("QMC" or the "Company") announces it has released the NI 43-101 Technical Report - Rocky Lake Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) Project completed by Garth Kirkham, P.Geo. The report provides an independent geophysical and geological evaluation, an updated review of the recent work (2010-2011) conducted on the property and the recommendation to further investigate the potential of the property as an economic mineral resource.

The Rocky Lake VMS Project ("the Project") comprises the contiguous Rocky Lake and Rocky-Namew properties totaling 55,352 hectares in the Flin Flon Mining District in northwestern Manitoba. The Project is located 50 kilometres northwest of the town of The Pas and 65 kilometres south of the mining center and former smelter at Flin Flon off Highway 10.

From March 30th through April 14th, 2011 Geotech Ltd. carried out a helicopter-borne geophysical survey over the Rocky Lake property, Jaln Claim, and MELS 358A, 359A, 360A and 361A using the versatile time domain electromagnetic (VTEMplus) system and horizontal magnetic gradiometer. A total of 2,142 line-kilometres of geophysical data were acquired during the survey. The purpose of the survey was to identify potential targets for drilling and sources of mineralization outside the Rocky Lake area proper.

From December 2011 through March 2012, the company drilled nine NQ drill holes for a total of 2,439 metres into 5 separate targets; four holes into the original Rocky Lake copper occurrence, two holes each into the Jaln Claim and MEL 358A and one hole into MEL 361A.

The exploration and drilling has been successful at testing mineralization identified through geophysics. Based on the results, it is reasonable to assume that there could be potential for deposit scale mineralization. The geophysics has shown to be an excellent exploration indicator, serving as a proof of concept for further exploration potential. QMC has retained and expanded the claims and licenses that comprise the property which covers a large number of exploration targets.

Drill holes RL 12-5 and RL 11-2 have been successful in the discovery of some of the most significant mineralization to date on the property. One intersection of approximately 10 metres of semi-massive sulphide within RL 12-5, which is 150 metres along strike from drill hole RL 11-3 and 300 metres from RL 11-2, ends within a significant intersection of massive sulphides. Further investigation is warranted for this zone.

A work and exploration program is recommended to further investigate the Rocky Lake VMS Project with specific focus on the high grade massive sulphide bed on the Rocky Lake property in addition to drilling on select targets from the 41 geophysics targets identified.

In order to further evaluate the exploration potential of the Rocky Lake VMS Project, the following recommendations should be considered in a two phase program for 2013-2014:

  • ?.-detailed, refined targeting using the TITAN24 System;

    -investigating targets through 2,500 metres of diamond drilling in 8 holes followed by a Phase II Program of 3,500 metres in 11 holes;

    -accurately surveying the drill holes utilizing a differential GPS;

    -continuation with and improvement of QA/QC procedures; and,

    -performing a 3D modelling and GIS data compilation

Garth Kirkham, P. Geo., visited the property on November 2, 2012.

Mr. Garth Kirkham, P.Geo, is a Qualified Person for the Rocky Lake VMS Project and is responsible for the technical content of this news release.
