The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that an ATB Cormark survey shows that over three-quarters of oil patch players and investors believe the Pacific Link pipeline to British Columbia and the Pathways carbon storage project will eventually proceed. A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe quotes ATB saying construction timing remains uncertain. ATB polled 22 energy services companies, 27 exploration and production companies, and 42 institutional investors from Sept. 14 to Sept. 28. A pipeline tied to an energy accord between Ottawa and Alberta depends on the construction of Pathways, which will transport carbon dioxide from oil sands operations to an underground storage site near Cold Lake, Alta. A firm agreement among governments and industry is expected next month. About 75 per cent of respondents said they believed the projects would receive a positive investment decision. However, 53 per cent said they believe construction would begin in 2028 or later, with 24 per cent believing that would happen next year. Alberta has targeted a Sept. 1, 2027, date for pipeline building to commence. Trans Mountain Corp. and the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission will form a new company with Pembina Pipeline.
