The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Nov. 4, edition that a group of Canadian-owned defense companies, the Alliance of Canadian Defence Companies (ACDC), is urging Ottawa to prioritize domestic ownership in military procurement contracts. The Globe's Steven Chase writes that representatives met with MPs and officials, including Stephen Fuhr, Secretary of State for procurement, to discuss their concerns. The ACDC says many businesses are having difficulty securing contracts even after successful trials of their products by the Canadian Armed Forces. Prime Minister Mark Carney wants Canada to have sovereign control over its defence industry, saying that sending 70 cents of every military procurement dollar to the U.S. is now over. ACDC says there are "critical capability areas that should be prioritized for Canadian-owned, Canadian-controlled companies." ACDC's visit to Ottawa this week included representatives from North Vector Dynamics, Dominion Dynamics, PV Labs, Kraken Robotics, Reaction Dynamics, Kepler Communications and others. They have capabilities from autonomous systems, aerospace, marine and space technologies to advanced manufacturing, sensors and cybersecurity.
