The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Aug. 2, edition that Raymond James analyst Steve Hansen has lowered his recommendation for Parkland to "outperform" from "strong buy." The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Hansen likes Parkland, but figure the stock may have got ahead of itself. He is sticking with his $42 share target. Analysts on average target the shares at $40.54. Mr. Hansen says in a note: "After several years of COVID based restrictions, consumer appetite for travel appears near-insatiable, a behavioral shift that reportedly extended the traditional Caribbean tourism season and, by extension, likely benefited Parkland's extensive fuel distribution infrastructure throughout the region. Supporting this view, we point to occupancy data at many of the cruise industry's largest operators, including Royal Caribbean Group (RCG) and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCL), who both reported more than 100-per-cent occupancy rates in 1Q23. ... We reiterate our constructive view on Parkland's shares based upon growing confidence in management's renewed focus on monetizing non-core assets, extracting further cost efficiencies, and reducing total leverage."
