The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, April 23, edition that RBC analyst Paul Treiber anticipates that first quarter results for Canadian tech companies will align with consensus expectations. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Treiber cautions, however, that macroeconomic uncertainties from tariffs may lead to longer sales cycles and lower near-term bookings for software firms, while reduced consumer spending could negatively impact those reliant on payment-related revenue. Accordingly, Mr. Treiber trimmed his share target for Open Text to $30 from $31 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $34.55. Mr. Treiber continues to rate Open Text at "sector perform." Mr. Treiber says in a note: "We believe Open Text is likely to report Q3 in line with consensus and the company's quarterly factors. However, reduced discretionary spending as a result of macro uncertainty is a headwind to bookings growth over the near-term. As a result, Open Text may reduce FY25 bookings guidance and possibly FY25 revenue guidance. However, we see Open Text deploying an increasing portion of FCF on share repurchases, which helps provide some support for the stock."
