NEXUS GOLD APPOINTS THOMAS KELLY TO ADVISORY BOARD AND AS COLOMBIA COUNTRY MANAGER
Nexus Gold Corp. has appointed Thomas Kelly as the inaugural member of its advisory board, effective immediately. The advisory board will provide strategic and technical advice to management and will operate independently of the company's board of directors, without director-level governance or decision-making authority. Thomas Kelly has also been appointed country manager of Nexus Gold SAS, the company's Colombian subsidiary.
These appointments are a first step in strengthening Nexus's technical and operational leadership as it advances its strategy of evaluating and acquiring gold projects in Colombia with potential for redevelopment and renewed production.
"Tom brings the practical underground mining and country-level operating experience we need as we build our presence in Colombia," said Edward Kelly, president and chief executive officer of Nexus Gold. "His record of expanding operations, leading technical teams and working with local stakeholders brings an important operating perspective to our project evaluations and investment decisions."
"I am pleased to join Nexus as it builds its business in Colombia," said Thomas Kelly. "Successful projects depend on disciplined technical evaluation, strong local teams and careful execution. I look forward to helping the company assess opportunities and advance its Colombian strategy."
Colombian operating experience
Thomas Kelly served as country manager and a director of Antioquia Gold Inc., with responsibility for its Colombian operations from 2020 to 2024. During his tenure, the Cisneros operation expanded processing capacity from approximately 400 to 1,500 tonnes per day. His work included mechanized narrow-vein mining methods designed to improve productivity and control dilution as well as rockfill techniques to support ore extraction. The operation also implemented community and environmental programs.
Previously, as chief operating officer of Atico Mining from 2013 to 2016, Thomas Kelly oversaw redevelopment and expansion of the El Roble underground copper-gold mine in Choco, Colombia. Work included developing new mining areas and a kilometre-long access adit. During his tenure, the operation advanced underground mining methods, including drift-and-fill mining using cemented rockfill to support underhand extraction.
Country manager responsibilities
As country manager of Nexus Gold SAS, Thomas Kelly will co-ordinate the company's Colombian activities and provide technical leadership and oversight of its local geological, engineering and consulting resources. His responsibilities include overseeing project evaluations and technical due diligence; guiding geological assessments, exploration planning and project development; co-ordinating with local stakeholders and authorities; and reporting regularly to Nexus management on progress, priorities and material risks.
International background
Thomas Kelly holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mining engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, with a minor in mineral economics. He is founder, president and chief executive officer of Andes Colorado Corp., a mining consultancy. His career spans underground and open-pit mining, project development, exploration, and corporate leadership in Latin America, North America, Africa and Asia, including assignments with Freeport in Indonesia.
