The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Jan. 26, edition that BMO analyst Joel Jackson has reaffirmed his "outperform" recommendation for Nutrien. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Jackson cut his share target to $80 from $86 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $71.34. Mr. Jackson says in a note: "Ahead of Q4 earnings season, we mark to market all our models for commodity price moves, specific developments etc. This leads to slightly lower 2024E estimates for fertilizer and lithium stocks -- we lower some fertilizer target prices accordingly. This follows continued underperformance by most of our coverage, which we still deem overdone as we deem both ag and lithium sentiment too negative and see underappreciation that current crop input earnings levels could be new mid-cycle levels, but current multiples remain two to three times below mid-cycle averages. We see asymmetrical upside risk for lithium, as well as improving spot nitrogen prices/earnings (positive moves in gas and urea partially offset by weaker ammonia)." The Globe reported on Jan. 16, that Raymond James had cut Nutrien to "market perform" from "outperform." It was then worth $48.92.
