The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Nov. 13, edition that sources say Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to include the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) in British Columbia and the Nouveau Monde Graphite battery project in Quebec among his government's nation-building projects. The Globe's Justine Hunter writes that the announcement will take place in B.C. on Thursday, as part of a second group of projects being fast-tracked by the Major Projects Office, following an initial group of five announced in September. The projects revealed so far have all focused on unlocking resources necessary for future trade and industry. B.C.'s government has already committed to building the $6-billion, 450-kilometre NCTL from Prince George to Terrace, promising shovels in the ground by 2026. Ottawa has been asked to list the hydroelectric transmission line so the federal government can help cover construction costs. The new line is meant to secure tens of billions of dollars in private-sector investments, including a string of critical-mineral mines. Nouveau Monde is developing graphite mines in Quebec, and Ottawa plans to stockpile some of its output to reduce reliance on China's dominance in the industry.
