The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Nov. 8, edition that National Bank Financial analyst Mike Parkin has reaffirmed his "outperform" recommendation for Newmont. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Parkin trimmed his share target by $6 to $75. Analysts on average target the shares at $72.16. The Globe says Mr. Parkin sees shares of Newmont "shifting into a show-me story" following recent operational weakness, suggesting any share price rerating could be delayed until the integration of assets from its Newcrest Mining acquisition "shows well and the company delivers operationally, which we expect could take place well within a year." Mr. Parkin says in a note: "We updated our gold production estimates for the Newmont assets to align with the updated FY23 guidance of 5.3 million ounces (NBF estimate 5.27Moz for legacy Newmont mines). The lowered guidance comes off the back of recent operational weakness and the five-month strike at Penasquito which ended in October. Additionally, we tweaked our capex estimates across the board to align with the new split between sustaining and growth capex. ... We expect more clarity from management with Q4 earnings in late February."
