The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Nov. 28, edition that the 28-year-old cold case of JonBenet Ramsey is back in the spotlight with Netflix's docuseries, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey. The Globe's guest columnist Amber Dowling writes that this three-episode series explores the 1996 murder of the six-year-old in Boulder, Colo., highlighting the police's initial investigation errors and media sensationalism. It follows a trend of Netflix projects questioning police and the justice system, similar to its 2015 Making a Murderer and its 2020 Tiger King, and more recently with drops such as Till Murder Do Us Part: Soering vs. Haysom, This is the Zodiac Speaking and The Menendez Brothers (which follows Ryan Murphy's dramatized take on the story, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story). The JonBenet docuseries aims to clear the Ramsey family's name, as many have long suspected parents John Ramsey and Patsy Ramsey of either murdering their daughter or covering up for their son, Burke Ramsey. While Burke Ramsey was cleared by police, on-line theories persist. John Ramsey, a prominent voice in the doc, argues against their guilt and highlights alleged leaks by police that spread false stories to the press.
