The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, April 28, edition that retail investors are focusing on sustainable securities and plan to increase their holdings despite geopolitical uncertainty, according to a new survey. The Globe's Jeffrey Jones writes that many are also investing more in Canadian companies that align with their values, as found in research by the Responsible Investment Association. A survey of 1,001 Canadian investors revealed that 47 per cent of those already investing in environmental, social and governance factors plan to increase their holdings, with the same percentage intending to maintain their current allocations. Only 1 per cent plan to reduce their ESG investments. Additionally, 28 per cent of respondents currently own sustainable assets, while 38 per cent are unsure if they do. RIA chief executive officer Patricia Fletcher said the results are heartening given the economic, trade and military conflicts that have injected a slew of new risks into the investing sphere.
