The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, March 1, edition that Scotia Capital analyst Meny Grauman is keeping his "sector perform" call on National Bank of Canada intact. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Grauman boosted his share target by $2 to $109. Analysts on average target the shares at $107.55. Mr. Grauman says in a note: "We stand by our view that National Bank delivered a 'best-in-class' result in Q1. ... [It] delivered a strong performance across almost every metric. ... Despite kicking off the year with a lot of momentum, particularly in the financial markets segment, management continues to hold onto conservative guidance including all-bank PTPP growth in the mid-single-digit range. As we highlighted in our first look, National Bank's results are out of step with peers when it comes to both capital and credit, which we believe speaks to the bank's unique positioning. Throughout the post-pandemic period, National Bank had been second only to TD in terms of its favorable capital position. ... Overall the bank's business and geographical mix appear to be key strengths that should help NA continue to be a positive outlier in this respect."
