The consequences of the Republican tax and budget bill passed last Thursday are becoming clear. Energy economists predict it will significantly reduce the electricity added to the U.S. power grid, even as China advances. Rhodium Group director Ben King says wind and solar power are crucial in the near term. He says: "This creates a risk that energy projects just won't get built. At the same time, China is adding staggering electricity capacity." China added more new wind and solar electricity to its grid in the first five months of this year than the total new electricity the U.S. added from all sources in 2024.
