The National Post satirically reimagines a week in the life of a house in its Saturday, Sept. 23, edition. In its Dear Diary column the Post's Tristin Hopper gives a day-by-day, Monday to Friday, account of life as a house. On Monday Mr. Hopper's house says its rafters are quivering in "abject terror" because "the Government of Canada has officially announced that me, a Canadian house, costs too much." On Tuesday Mr. Tristan's house frets over being so expensive and says, "I got this way thanks to a thicket of red tape and politically condoned NIMBYISM." On Wednesday it wonders if it "cheapens the aspirational dream of home ownership when it is feasibly available to all?" On Thursday it says its "present state stands as a monument to the principle that it is the birthright of every Canadian (at least those born prior to 1980) to occupy a neighbourhood that never, ever changes." On Friday the house wonders if it is a policy failure that a 1970s-era single-family home commands the same price as a good-sized Irish island. Mr. Hopper's house suggests that it has become a "bottomless pit of accumulated wealth to rival the 30-year stock prices of Microsoft or Apple."
