The multipolar world theme is topical in light of world leaders meeting in Davos. Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Donald Trump pointed to a less unified global order, marked by smaller alliances and national self-sufficiency. The logical investments arising from this theme are critical minerals miners and defence stocks. Morgan believes artificial intelligence is advancing faster than humans can implement it, leading to skepticism about investments in the sector. It expects signs of widespread AI adoption to emerge in the latter half of this year. Energy shortages will accelerate the development of carbon capture, energy storage, nuclear power and grid efficiencies, while rising electricity bills will push for modernized energy consumption. The fourth theme, societal shifts, extends the longevity theme to include the re-education of workers displaced by AI, aging populations and changing consumer preferences.
