The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, April 26, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Chris Li thinks Metro's "solid execution" continued in its second quarter, seeing its transition to two new automated distribution centres on track as it maintained its full-year guidance. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities that Mr. Li continues to rate the shares "hold." Mr. Li boosted his share target by a loonie to $75. Analysts on average target the shares at $77.22. Mr. Li says in a note: "We believe Metro is well-positioned for 8- to 10-per-cent EPS [earnings per share] growth longer-term, supported by efficiency benefits from the automated DCs, structural pharmacy tailwinds and effective merchandising strategies. ... But we see limited upside to valuation (in line with average) given moderating inflation and potential for sector rotation in 2H as interest rates fall. ... We believe Metro's solid and consistent execution make it an appealing long-term investment. But near-term catalysts are lacking, especially against the backdrop of moderating inflation, earnings pressures from temporary DC duplicative costs and potential for sector rotation in 2H as interest rates decline."
