The Globe's Steven Chase and three other writers report that Mr. Carney expressed confidence in the survival of Canada's auto sector and highlighted the importance of protecting critical industries such as metals and minerals, artificial intelligence, and energy sectors. Mr. Carney noted that the U.S. is no longer a reliable partner and stressed the necessity of redirecting trade relationships to ensure Canada's economic future. More than one million cars and light trucks are manufactured in Canada for export to the United States. These represent more than 90 per cent of Canada's production.
