The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Aug. 8, edition that Magna International founder Frank Stronach, who has been accused of sexually assaulting 10 individuals, recently spoke out in an interview with CBC's The Fifth Estate. A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe reports that in the interview clips aired by the CBC, the 91-year-old alleged that his accusers are pursuing the cases against him in order to take his money. The Fifth Estate also aired clips from an interview with one of the 10 accusers, who claimed that she was raped by Mr. Stronach in 1980 when she was 20 years old and working as a horse groomer at one of his stables. Initially charged in June with five sex-related offenses involving three accusers, Mr. Stronach faced an additional eight charges involving seven more accusers. According to court documents, the charges include rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, forcible confinement and sexual assault, and are related to incidents allegedly occurring as far back as 1977 and as recently as this year. During the CBC interview, Mr. Stronach suggested that the state of the economy might have motivated his accusers to pursue the cases against him, attributing it to poverty.
