The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that TD Securities analyst Mario Mendonca has reaffirmed his "action list buy" recommendation for Manulife Financial. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Mendonca bumped his share target ahead by a loonie to $33. Analysts on average target the shares at $28.58. Mr. Mendonca says in a note: "Results were solid this quarter, particularly the significant improvement in Asian new business and growth in new business CSM. LTC did not impact results meaningfully. Finally, CSM amortization continues to improve. Offsetting these positive attributes, the significant market charges (real-estate valuation) continue to hurt our otherwise positive view on the sector." The Globe's Rob Carrick recommended buying Manulife on Oct. 15, 2022, when the shares were going for $22. The Globe reported on Feb. 18, 2023, and May 12, 2023, that RBC Capital Markets analyst Darko Mihelic had reiterated his "sector perform" recommendation for Manulife when it could be had for $26.72 and $25.58. The Globe reported on Nov. 3, 2023, that Scotia Capital analyst Meny Grauman had reaffirmed his "sector outperform" call for Manulife when it was worth $25.48.
