The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that the White House wants the EU to reduce emergency diesel inventories to help lower global prices. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe reports that the White House is frustrated that some European countries, like France and Germany, have not met their earlier commitments to use emergency oil reserves to address supply disruptions and price spikes from the Iran conflict and shipping issues in the Strait of Hormuz. American officials have raised their concerns with the International Energy Agency, which coordinates oil stockpile releases among member countries. In March, Washington agreed to loan 172 million barrels of oil from the SPR as part of a deal with around 30 countries in the International Energy Agency to release 400 million barrels from global reserves, with EU countries contributing 20 per cent of the total. In announcing a new release of oil from reserves, Energy Secretary Chris Wright publicly pressed European countries to fulfill their commitments, saying on Tuesday that while the United States and Japan were delivering on theirs, "several European member countries have released only a fraction" of the crude oil and petroleum products they had pledged.
