The National Post reports in its Friday, March 6, edition that the German government remains skeptical about Canada's promises to enhance infrastructure for natural gas exports to Europe, says Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre. The Post's Christopher Nardi writes that after meetings in Berlin with German officials and business groups, Mr. Poilievre said Germany is interested in buying Canadian LNG. His visit aimed to promote a natural gas development plan that includes binding supply agreements with allies and faster approval for pipelines and LNG export terminals. Mr. Poilievre said: "It was a bit ironic, I didn't have to do any sales job. 'When can you have it here?' is the question you get" from the Germans when pitched Canadian gas. Mr. Poilievre said he sensed uncertainty from the Germans when asked if they believe Canada can build additional facilities to export larger quantities of its natural gas faster. "They didn't say it clearly, but I think they're in a 'we'll see it to believe it' mode," said Mr. Poilievre, who is on his first foreign mission since becoming Conservative leader in 2022, with stops in London, Berlin and Hamburg. The only Canadian LNG export terminal is in Kitimat, B.C.
