GATEKEEPER APPOINTS JASON HARRIS AS VP STUDENT PROTECTOR PROGRAMS TO INCREASE FOCUS ON VIDEO ENFORCEMENT AND STOP ARM VIOLATIONS

Gatekeeper Systems Inc. has appointed Jason Harris as vice-president, Student Protector programs, and has provided a corporate update.

Mr. Harris has over 20 years of leadership experience in school and transit transportation in Florida, where he was director of transportation for both Manatee County Schools and Sarasota County Schools, as well as transit division manager, Manatee county. Mr. Harris will lead development and strategy for Gatekeeper's Student Protector and help school districts utilize video evidence to combat the growing problem of vehicles illegally passing a stopped school bus when children are crossing the street.

Doug Dyment, president and chief executive officer, commented: "I'm delighted to welcome Jason to our team to spearhead the growth of this important initiative. Jason's skills extend well beyond transportation operations where he led staff of over 300 employees. He has also worked closely with superintendents, boards of directors, law enforcement personnel and county judicial staff. The State of Florida just recently approved legislation allowing video enforcement of school bus stop arm violations.

Gatekeeper already has a well-established school district customer base, which is representative of approximately 40 per cent of Florida's total bus population, and the company's platform-as-a-service business model has been embraced by numerous school districts. Gatekeeper believes video enforcement represents a high-growth opportunity for Gatekeeper and the company's AI (artificial intelligence) and video analytics technology has already proven to be superior in enforcement applications. Mr. Harris's deep industry experience will be invaluable in helping make Student Protector the dominant choice for school districts who are now working aggressively to combat this problem which has become shockingly worse in the last few years."

The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services annual survey estimate released on July 10, 2023, points to more than 43.5 million illegal passings of stopped school buses during the 2022-2023 school year in the United States, which is a significant increase from the estimated 17 million in the 2018-2019 school year.

Gatekeeper's Student Protector uses AI and video analytics to detect, record evidence and capture licence plate data of vehicles that illegally pass a school bus when the stop arm is deployed for school children to cross the street. Gatekeeper's optional proprietary software also automates the ticketing process of these stop arm violations.

The company also announces that Colin Sutherland has resigned as director of the company for personal reasons effective Aug. 8, 2023. The company thanks Mr. Sutherland for his valuable contribution and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
