FP/wire say Goldman, rivals warn of possible pullback

The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that concerns are growing that markets may be in technically overbought conditions. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that Goldman Sachs analyst Praveen Korapaty says, "Markets are approaching the limits of what can plausibly be priced without attaching material odds of a recession in the near term." Pendal Group's Xie Patrick is recalibrating her firm's wagers to account for the growing risks. She trimmed long positions on Treasuries, shifted to neutral on U.S. high-yield credit, and exited bets for the dollar to fall against the South Korean won and Brazilian real. The S&P 500 fell on Monday from its highest level since March, 2022. U.S. two-year yields slipped one basis point on Dec. 5 after jumping 10 basis points the previous day. Morgan Stanley's Michael Wilson says U.S. stocks are set for a rocky end to the year. He says December may bring "near-term volatility in both rates and equities" before more constructive seasonal trends as well as the "January effect" support equities next month. JPMorgan's Mislav Matejka says markets expecting a soft landing leave no room for error. He says, "Perhaps one should be contrarian yet again."
