The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that a source says Microsoft-backed OpenAI aims to file for an initial public offering in the coming days or weeks, with the goal of going public in the fall. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that pursuing a listing this year could help OpenAI surpass rival Anthropic in attracting investors, but it faces legal, competitive and macroeconomic challenges that may impact its IPO plans. OpenAI has faced increasing competition, especially from Anthropic, which is growing its revenue and market share with advanced artificial intelligence agent tools. Anthropic is in talks to raise funding at a valuation over $900-billion (U.S.), surpassing OpenAI's recent private market value. Additionally, Google, once considered behind in the AI space, is now gaining momentum, prompting OpenAI to declare a "code red" late last year. OpenAI has been rethinking its product lineup and shuffling leadership, as well as confronting new doubts about its growth following a report that it missed certain internal revenue and user targets. In response, OpenAI chief financial officer Sarah Friar says the company is meeting its objectives and seeing a "vertical wall of demand" for its products.
