The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Sept. 8, edition that BMO Nesbitt Burns analyst Jackie Przybylowski has elevated her recommendation for First Quantum Minerals to "outperform" from "market perform." The Globe's David Leeder writes that Ms. Przybylowski gave her share target a $5 boost to $40. Analysts on average target the shares at $36.75. Ms. Przybylowski says in a note: "The most meaningful challenge at First Quantum has been the relatively high geopolitical risk exposure of its key assets. In our view, the risks in Zambia have been meaningfully improved since the election of Hakainde Hichilema in 2021. We also see a strong probability that the "Law 9" mining code replacement in Panama is resolved before Oct. 31. More recent challenges, including strike notice by a Cobre Panama union, are unlikely to have a meaningful negative impact to the operation as we expect a collective bargaining agreement before the workforce is in a legal strike position on Sept. 8 or shortly thereafter and market weakness in anticipation of this event represents an attractive entry point opportunity, in our view." The Globe reported on Aug. 23 that t Stifel had cut First Quantum to "hold" from "buy." It was then worth $33.72.
