The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Nov. 2, edition that National Bank analyst Jaeme Gloyn has reaffirmed his "outperform" recommendation for Fairfax Financial Holdings. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Gloyn gave his share target a $100 boost to $1,800. Analysts on average target the shares at $1,485.09. Mr. Gloyn says the Canadian property and casualty insurance sector remains "well positioned" for the near term. He points to "hard market condition and higher interest rates that support improved investment income (in particular for Fairfax)." Mr. Gloyn says in a note: "For our top pick Fairfax, we expect higher interest rates will continue to drive recurring interest and dividend income higher. ... Fairfax remains the best value idea in our coverage. Fairfax offers large-cap investors strong topline growth, underwriting profitability, and leverage to a higher interest rate environment that supports consistent mid-teen ROE for the foreseeable future. ... We believe Fairfax can deliver mid-teens ROE over the medium-term through a combination of consistently strong underwriting growth/profits and improving total investment return performance, particularly in a higher interest rate environment."
