The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Aug. 9, edition that National Bank Financial analyst Jaeme Gloyn has reaffirmed his "outperform" recommendation for Fairfax Financial Holdings. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Gloyn raised his Street-high share target to $1,700 from $1,600. Analysts on average target the shares at $1,451.76. Mr. Gloyn says in a note: "We believe the combination of 1) 4-per-cent quarter-over-quarter increase in BVPS [book value per share]; 2) strong combined ratio of 94 per cent; 3) huge operating income beat; and 4) run-rate interest and dividend income that we estimate now approaches $1.9-billion will continue to drive the shares materially higher in the coming months. Although one of the best performing financials stocks so far in 2023, we believe Fairfax remains the best value idea in our coverage universe." The Globe reported on May 24 that National Bank rated Fairfax "outperform" when it could be had for $956.82. The Globe reported on July 25 that Scotia Capital analyst Phil Hardie had reaffirmed his "sector outperform" for Fairfax which was then trading at $1023.27.
