The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that industry groups are urging trade officials to return to the negotiating table, warning that prolonged uncertainty could have irreversible consequences for economic growth. The Post's Paula Tran writes that Business Council of Canada chief executive officer Goldy Hyder says business leaders have hesitated to deploy capital and move forward with large projects because of the lack of certainty around the trade negotiations. He says Canada needs to strengthen its relationships with the United States and Mexico and work constructively toward a renewed Canada–U.S.–Mexico Agreement, while also making it easier to invest, hire and grow businesses domestically. Mr. Hyder says: "What is much harder to manage is the uncertainty about the rules under which [businesses] will be making billions of dollars of investment decisions for five, 10 and 20 years from now or more. From the perspective of Canadian business, the objective should be clear: preserve and strengthen the predictable rules-based economic relationship that has served all three countries well. A renewed agreement would provide something investors desperately need: confidence."
