The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday, July 30, edition that Alexandra Ford English, who may one day lead Ford Motor, joined her father, Bill Ford, at a Michigan policy conference in May. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that this was their first public appearance together since she joined Ford's board in 2021, following her work with the company and roles at Gap and Tory Burch. It was a unique opportunity for investors to assess the next generation of leadership. The Ford family has led the automaker for all but two decades of its 122-year history, through wars, recessions and boom times alike. Ford now faces a perilous future, with U.S. President Donald Trump's trade war scrambling its supply chains and piling on costs, even as fast-growing Chinese rivals pull ahead in electric-vehicle technology and threaten to seize the future of transportation. Ford reports its quarterly results on Wednesday, with analysts expecting a 30-per-cent drop in earnings per share from last year. Ms. English is the only candidate to emerge thus far. Ms. English, however, is also an unknown, giving few interviews to date. Bloomberg says there is little to show how she would handle the tests confronting Ford.
